How To Create An Effective Ad Video

From increasing revenue to becoming an industry thought leader -- video marketing is something that offers many benefits. If you take a look at this WordStream article, you’ll find 75 impressive video marketing statistics.

However, any video won’t do. Ad video making is a perfect representation of quality over quantity. With so many companies out there with ad videos, your video is not guaranteed to be a hit. Only creative videos that sparkle and glow will get the job done. Here’s how you can create an effective ad video that will help you surpass company milestones in no time!

First Impressions Matter

If the first few minutes of a Netflix show are boring, we immediately skip on to something new. That same concept applies to boring ad videos. Don’t save your trump card for last but rather throw it out right at the beginning! Make an effort to brainstorm ideas that will hook your audience from the very beginning.

If everyone leaves after just 2 seconds, there would have been no point in having created the rest of the video. To avoid this situation, here are a couple of tactics to consider:

  • Address a common problem

  • Start with a “What If..” question

  • Ask a relevant question

  • Start with a mouth-dropping fact

  • Say something that makes you stand out

Create a Story

With brilliant storytelling, consumers feel something impactful. Whether it’s love, hope, or feeling inspired -- emotion is what makes people take action. Even more, if consumers attach your brand with a specific story or emotion, your product will stay in their heads for longer.

So, combine a powerful story with a call-to-action, and voila -- right? Unfortunately, creating a story is easier said than done. You’ll want to brainstorm your ideal buyer persona, come up with a unique story, create your script, and then film. If you aren’t having any luck, consulting a writing or video professional (like us!) may be a good idea.

Highlight What Makes You Better

What makes us better than our competitors? That is the single most important question you’ll want to address while creating your ad video. Hone in on what makes your business better, and take advantage of it. Showcase things like company culture, statistics, or even testimonials to highlight why your business is the best option.

Make Your Video Shareable

There’s no formula to create shareable and viral content -- that would be too easy. But, there are some guidelines to follow. For one, you have to create a video that people will want to share. Don’t be afraid to add a bit of pizzazz, and make the viewer feel cool when they send it to their friends.  Secondly, creativity goes a long way. The last thing that consumers will want to watch are ad videos that feel like infomercials.

Optimize Ad Duration

Most ad videos will run for 30 seconds or less, and that’s because longer ads are rarely worth it. That’s because most viewers won’t stay for videos that are longer than this ideal length. Keep the ideal time interval in mind when planning out your script and story. When you finish recording, make sure to review the ad video, and trim unnecessary content. Shorter ad videos are more clickable and the lack of rambling makes your business more professional.

Optimize Upload Time

Once your ad video is cleaned and polished, make sure that you post the video when the most eyes are watching. Generally (at least for Youtube), viewership tends to peak on weekday evenings -- and are the highest on Thursdays and Fridays. On weekends, you actually will want to upload in the morning, between 9 AM to noon.

If you intend to upload onto several platforms, make sure to research the best times to upload for each one.
